Impact of out-of-school suspension over time

September 7, 2016 Text Cache

Sept. 7, 2016

This undated CMS spreadsheet examines the 2015-16 graduation cohort, and specifically the 5,754 members of that class for which CMS had information about out-of-school suspensions during their PK-2 years. For privacy reasons, grades in which there were one to four suspensions are marked <5; but zeros are used where there were no reported out-of-school suspensions. The charts are not self-explanatory, but seem to suggest that demographic groups of youth who experienced out-of-school suspensions in their early years begin dropping out after ninth grade. The document was provided to the Forum by CMS Board of Education member Ericka Ellis-Stewart.

The four spreadsheets from which these charts were extracted are in an Excel file for download here.
