Back when the city was looking for someone to replace retiring Police Chief Rodney Monroe, the talk was that Kerr Putney was an incurable introvert.
Perhaps he is. But at the Forum Tuesday, he was a warm, outgoing, clarifying, reassuring presence, focused on explaining his officers’ roles, enlisting participants’ support, promising a bottom-to-top educational enterprise to put officers in closer touch with the people they are sworn to protect.
Putney was introduced by City Manager Ron Carlee. Putney and Carlee shared the speaker’s table with mayoral candidate Michael Barnes. Barnes’ presentation, made Tuesday because of a scheduling conflict, will be archived on another page. Other mayoral candidates are due at the Forum Aug. 11.
Below are videos from Putney’s presentation, and the Q&A that followed.
