The material on this page was written by Bolyn McClung, an occasional Forum participant and longtime CMS observer, and is published with his permission. The text and graphs are in a PDF that may be downloaded here.
The piece is entitled, “The Heartbreak of Being a CMS Academic Growth Student: An eye-opening view of the disparity separating two Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.”
When asked whether he saw disparity issues in the community that might explain the disparate achievement levels among schools, McClung replied, “At the moment this is an ongoing research project. It would be easy to blame anything for these initial results but not something I want to do now. The only obvious is that the differences between school outcomes is that they are persistently wide. For example, Bruns having seven straight years of “F’s” should have made a good administration mad as hell … might have … but nothing changed.”
For readers on smartphones, the charts may be expanded for easier reading, and the entire page may be easier to read in landscape view.
