Video documentarian Steve Crump had asked that the Forum today share with Forum participants his latest work: “Andrew Young’s Datelines of Protest.” On his way to the hospital for observation this morning, he called to say, can’t be there but go ahead and share. That’s Steve Crump. The Forum wishes Mr. Crump a speedy recovery, and looks forward to his participation at a future Forum to share his own commentary on his latest project.
Facilitator Laura McClettie gathered together a panel to discuss the video: Forum regular and retired broadcaster Ken Koontz, who had his own tales to tell about the time period Crump laid out; and George E. Shinhoster, an SCLC (Southern Christian Leadership Conference) field organizer at the time of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s death, and now a “speaker, storyteller and dream keeper” who leads tours to civil rights landmarks and spent a career in the YMCA in multiple states.
Multiple technical difficulties were encountered today. Dozens of times, the video feed was halted by Internet slowdowns; all of the audio, however, is intact. And while Forum participants in the Belmont Center could see and hear the Andrew Young documentary fine, the livestreams from Webex did not carry any sound. The video above shows the Forum meeting’s opening, then switches to a clean file of the Andrew Young documentary, then returns to the Belmont Center room for the question-and-answer session.
