‘Don’t be a one-issue voter’

October 21, 2020 I am voting because

John Powell at the Forum, August 2017, during campaign for City Council.

By John Powell

I am voting because I have been blessed to live in a country that allows me to do so.

It troubles me that so many don’t vote, yet are among the first to complain. It troubles me that because one belongs to one party or the other, intimidation thrives.

We are limited by our choices, so learn about the candidates, their actions and not just their words.

Don’t be a “one-issue” voter. Don’t be persuaded by others: Trust yourself – God blessed you with a mind, and a conscience – so USE IT!

Yes, I am privileged because I live in a country that will count my vote.

Charlotte native John K. Powell Jr. graduated from Myers Park High, and holds a BSBA from Appalachian State University. A real estate appraiser, consultant and broker, he was among the founding members in 2019 of a Hornet’s Nest Republican Men’s Club focused on Mecklenburg and Union Counties, whose mission is “to recruit, develop, support and elect conservative Republicans to Public Office.” He ran fifth for four at-large Charlotte City Council seats in 2015 and again in 2017.
