Oct. 2, 2018

Victims of domestic violence need protection, and comfort, but also a lot of help navigating a complicated legal system.

That simple notion is behind the proposed CharMeck Family Justice Center. The first year of research and planning is now done, and four people at the Forum Tuesday helped share what has been learned. They also pleaded for public participation in the large tasks that still lie ahead.

Participating in the panel were Spencer Merriweather, district attorney; Laura Lawrence, chief legal counsel, Safe Alliance; Rashida Gittens, business operations analyst, Duke Energy and a survivor of domestic violence; and Sgt. Craig Varnum, domestic violence unit, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

The website portal for this project is here. Panelists distributed a two-page program overview.

The slides shown behind the presenters are shown on this page below the video, and may be downloaded as a PDF here.

The video below begins with the presentation. The Q&A begins at minute 30:30.
