Mecklenburg County Manager Dena Diorio offered an update this morning on a variety of county issues. She ended with the Health Department imbroglio, mentioning that all women who had been tested for cervical cancer but not notified of test results have now been found. Her message to the community was from Health Department employees.
“They all agree that what happened in that department was unacceptable, and should never happen and should never happen again. But they really wanted me to send their message out this community that they believe that one issue does not define who they are. It does not define the Health Department. It does not define the work that they do and the contribution they provide to this community.
“They are a tremendously dedicated, passionate group of people who really care about public health. So they really want me to get their message out, about how they feel about this…. They feel badly about what happened, but they are still incredibly committed to doing great work for this community.”
The video below includes all of Diorio’s presentation and the Q&A that followed. The presentations begins at minute 7:04. The Q&A follows at minute 27:35.
