Nov. 1, 2016

The final forum before the Nov. 8 election featured two judges running for statewide office and a legislator who is unopposed. But the session ranged widely. And not just about bathrooms. Among the more interesting civic education moments were offered by the judicial canidates explaining how internal controls are in place to ensure that all judges raise issues of fairness and equity at trial, even by questioning plea agreements when the judge wonders whether the agreement is in the defendant’s longterm interests.

The presentations by Judge McKoy-Mitchell and Michael Morgan begin at minute 7:00, followed by Rep. Rodney Moore. Moore had a cold.

The Q&A with the candidates begins at minute 23:00. N.C. Sen. Joel Ford joined in answering some of the questions.
