Byers-Bailey issues call to action over possible Double Oaks sale

September 13, 2016 Education & Health

Sept. 13, 2016

Board of Education member Thelma Byers-Bailey issued this call to action today to protest the possible sale by CMS of the old Double Oaks School property. The former elementary school and Pre-K center has been leased to community groups since the Great Recession.

Byers-Bailey said the current CMS administration had “no intention” of reopening the building as a school. Leaseholders have been given notice to vacate in advance of a possible sale, she said. Proceeds from the sale would pay for land in neighborhoods where CMS says it needs school buildings.
