Sarah Stevenson announced this morning that the Forum will move to Belmont Regional Center, 700 Parkwood Ave., effective Jan. 19. The last meeting at Ivory-Baker Recreation Center will be Jan. 12.
In announcing the move, Stevenson cited her longtime association with the city’s Community Relations Department, which occupies most of the building, and that the main floor meeting room at the Belmont Center had more space and better facilities.
The Belmont Center is owned by the City of Charlotte. Current occupants include Community Relations, several city staff departments and a few nonprofit tenants. Opened in 1975, the building has previously sheltered a day care center and, until the Great Recession, a neighborhood branch library.
Forum meeting sites since 1978 have included the YWCA, 418 E. Trade St.; Little Rock AME Zion Church, 403 N. Myers St,; Renaissance Place, 631 N. Tryon St.; McDonald’s Cafeteria, 2810 Beatties Ford Road at I-85; Old Beatties Ford Road Library, 2324 LaSalle St.; West Charlotte Recreation Center, 2401 Kendall Dr. and Ivory Baker Recreation Center, 1920 Stroud Park Court.
Below is a video of her announcement. More information will be posted elsewhere on this site about the Belmont Center, and driving directions to the site.
