Sept. 26, 2025
The “look” of the Forum website has begun to change.
Not that I like some of the changes. But they are designed to address the reality that, at 837 or whatever age I am, things are now taking twice as long as they used to.
The changes follow my announcement at a Sept. 9 facilitators meeting that I would be cutting back my hands-on Forum support by the end of March. I am not expecting a quick or complete separation – not quick because it will take time to untangle the separable tasks that I have taken on over time, starting with brewing coffee in 2003; not complete because I am not expecting to be hit by a truck – only allowing the Forum to be better prepared for that possibility.
- Website changes began Sept. 16 by displaying write-ups of meetings in a column with a new sig. The occasional links to media coverage of meeting content will now appear there. The column is also a signal to meeting participants that they are welcome to report and follow up on meeting content. Content will not resemble “social media.” All content will be read and be subject to editing for clarity and civility before being posted. The Forum has long sought a way to hold elected officials accountable; this might be a place for those interested in doing so to get published.
- Beginning Sept. 26-30, pictures of presenters were removed from website graphics. All are linked to the up to 10 hours per week spent locating, preparing and displaying those pictures. Of course, seeing who will be coming to Forum, or who has been there, has been useful, but perhaps not vital. Pictures were displayed in multiple formats and sizes – on the website front, as a display picture on the weekly report, on the wall before meetings, and in e-mail.
Other changes lie ahead. I will write more about them later. For now, thank you to those who keep up with the Forum via reading the website. If you are interested in contributing labor or dollars to help ensure the Forum’s future, please e-mail Laura McClettie.
