Matt Britt is an Atrium market strategist by day, a campaigner at all hours and, oh yes, a south Charlotte family man. Will this family be relieved if the family man comes up short in next Tuesday’s Democratic primary to place on the November election ballot four candidates for at-large seats on Charlotte City Council?
Britt quotes his activist parents who raised him in Winston-Salem and had him tag along to do volunteer work. He believes his mother was troubled by the reality that her work alone could not end homelessness or the other ills she taught her son to see. One result is that son seems focused on helping Charlotte to discern what it hopes to be, and then work to live inside that hope and make it a reality.
Britt seemed reluctant to share the steppingstones he’s navigated on his way from Winston-Salem to Wilmington to Greensboro to Charlotte, but some of them are on LinkedIn. His website is here. The first moments of live video below has been included because it may strike viewers as characteristic of a mirthful man on a serious mission of public service, announcing his availability and mindset now but prepared to continue until he finds his calling.
Questions raised issues of city litter, the next chief of police, police respect for neighborhood residents, underfunding of schools, displacement in gentrifying neighborhoods, corporate support for smaller neighborhood events, and boosting resident participation in the city’s life.
