U.S. Attorneys who are presidentially appointed, as Charlotte-based Dena J. King was, cycle out of those positions when a new president is inaugurated. King’s resignation as U.S. Attorney for the N.C. Western District was effective Feb. 12.
And what since then – and what about her future after being the first U.S. Attorney to serve the Western District?
King told the Forum this morning that she cried for serveral days; then felt the burden of her former role lift from her shoulders; then began a month off. The quote next to her picture above is as close as she would go in signaling her future.
Destiniee Jaram’s report on the Forum session in QCityMetro is here. That report homed in on what King said about the value King sees from diversity, equity and inclusion efforts in all lines of work, not just in the administration of justice.
Much of her address and answers to questions focused on her work educating North Carolinians about the work of her office; about its collaboration with other agencies in the effort to protect citizens and uphold the rule of law; and encouraging young people as they prepare for adult life.
The U.S. Attorney’s office Feb. 12 press release on King’s departure is here.
King’s appearance marked the first of four Forum’s marking Women’s History Month. Other March speakers are listed here.
