Below are the pages from the executive summary of the national Urban League’s 2022 State of Black America report titled, “Under Siege: The Plot to Destroy Democracy.”

The report, issued April 12 in Atlanta, includes information from the Brennan Center for Justice that focuses on efforts nationwide to pursue “gerrymandering, voter suppression, misinformation and intimidation.”

In its commentary on North Carolina’s legislative redistricting, the report says:

“Proposed state legislative maps could have eliminated a third of Black state senators and a fifth of Black state house members. Both congressional and legislative maps were struck down by state courts as discriminatory, but Republicans continue to try to put skewed maps in place.”
