African-American Achievers

The Wallace Pruitt Rec Center was full of examples of the creativity and inventiveness of African-Americans.

The door knob … a lock … the lawn sprinkler … the lighted traffic signal. Hundreds of items to help show the mostly young visitors to the “Highlighting African-American Achievers” exhibit the range of problems that African-Americans have found solutions to over the decades.

When the Tuesday Morning Breakfast Forum visited on Feb. 18, Center Recreation Specialist and Forum regular Blanche Penn took the group on a tour. The tour culiminated in a skit focused on the Underground Railroad experience. Portions of the skit are below.
