Today there is Vi, re-elected Tuesday. Earlier it was Jennifer, Dan, Patrick, Anthony, Pat, Richard, Sue, Harvey, Eddie and Ken. But now there will be another Mecklenburg mayor with deep roots at the Forum.

On Tuesday as expected, Amelia Stinson-Wesley was elected mayor of Pineville.

Reached Thursday evening, Stinson-Wesley wrote that “I am honored and humbled by the trust placed in me by my community, and I am grateful for this opportunity to serve our Town.

“I miss my friends at the Forum. I count it as one of the most important forums in the greater area and continue to commend it to others, especially those who want to be informed about all that happens in Mecklenburg County. I hope that my schedule allows me to come back and visit sometime soon.”

A devoted Forum reader – Stinson-Wesley has opened 92% of the Forum e-mails she’s received – she has been at the Forum off and on since 2014, both as participant and presenter. She lives in Pineville, but is currently senior pastor of Memorial United Methodist Church on Central Avenue Charlotte. Her husband Tom pastors Sedgefield Church.

Pineville’s town board will appoint a new member to replace Stinson-Wesley, who has served on the town board since 2019. She follows Mayor David Phillips, who withdrew from the race in July.
