Don’t expect much to result from leaving a flyer at the door about the importance of voting.
According to those speaking Tuesday, the way you rouse neighbors to vote is to send other neighbors to talk one-on-one. Make at least three in-person contacts with each voter, in addition to providing information about the election, And be ready for solutions when voters say they can’t get to the polling place.
Sound complicated? It’s not, really – but it’s as time-consuming as it is truly important.
Primary speakers for the session were Robert Dawkins and Tiffany Capers. Both are heavily involved in getting voters to the polls.
There was no livestream Tuesday because a work stoppage by ATT employees left most City of Charlotte facilities, including the Belmont Center, without reliabe internet connections. The video below was patched together after the meeting from equipment not requiring the internet: two old camcorders, a video camera, a still camera, and an audio-only recorder. The video includes most, but certainly not all, of the Tuesday session.
