The N.C. Supreme Court this evening ordered the General Assembly to redraw its districting maps and submit them to a three-judge panel by Feb. 18 for review, and completion of the litigation by Feb. 23. Filing would open Feb. 24, and the primary would be held May 17, under the order’s calendar.
The legislature must outline the data used in the redraw, and the judges noted that “partisan advantage is not a traditional neutral district criterion under state law.” An appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court is possible. The order is here. The court’s opinion in the case, issued Feb. 14, is here.
