3 women making their mark in Charlotte

March 20, 2018 Community & Housing

They do all sorts of work. One advises those who are considering creating their own nonprofit organization. One runs such a charitable organization. The third is trying to sell something she loves and that she thinks makes people smile.

Susan Woods used to sponsor programs through a nonprofit, but now, with Susan Woods Nonprofit Consulting Services, works for other nonprofits. Dr. Fostoria Pierson leads the Charlotte chapter of Blue Star Mothers. Rita Leach has an established place in what she called the hair industry, but has opened a mobile coffee vending operation with her son.

A number of questions and answers explored the prospects for “profit” in nonprofit work. Others explored how nonprofit status brings its own list of burdens and distractions, and is not for the faint-hearted.

In the video below, the presentations begin at minute 10:58. The Q&A begins at minute 23:10.
