CMS Board of Education Chair Mary McCray addressed the Forum at the end of the meeting. Among her messages:

• The board would move toward “more magnets, more options” but not wholesale busing as it adjusts the district’s student assignment plan.
• She pleaded for more residents of color to be asking the board publicly for “great schools for my children.”
• She said the contract was in process for a search for a new superintendent.

The board meets Wednesday night to take a vote on proposed changes on the student assignment guiding principles, a document that a board committee has been reviewing for a year. McCray pointed out that the document is not a student assignment plan; details will emerge over the next months.
