Dorothy Brown Jackson announced that the Black Political Caucus will hold its annual Spring Fund-Raiser on Friday, May 4 from 6-10 p.m. at the Sheraton Airport, 3315 Scott Futrell Dr., with candidates reception at 6 p.m. and program at 7 p.m. Individual tickets are $40. Beverly Irby sent in an announcement that Alexia Kelley, director of the Center for Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services would tour the C.W. Williams Community Helath Center at 333 Wilkinson Blvd. at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 3, and then make an announcement "about how the health reform law, the Affordable Care Act, expands the footprint of community health centers." "Sponsoring businesses are donating nearly $66,000 worth of prizes to help encourage participants to keep reading all summer long."

Brad Thompson sent in an announcement of the North Carolina Legislative Black Caucus Foundation Scholarship Banquet on June 15 with presentations beginning at 1 p.m. and banquet in the evening, to be held at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel & Convention Center, 4700 Emperor Blvd in the Research Triangle Park, Durham. Jenifer Daniels sent in a message that sign-up for the Public Library's Summer Reading Program is online, for all ages except babies and preschoolers. "From June 12-Aug.10, participants will track their hours of reading online. Babies/preschooler participants will receive a paper reading log when they sign up in person at a library branch. Sponsoring businesses are donating nearly $66,000 worth of prizes for those who finish reading the required number of hours."
