Pamela Jefsen, CEO of the American Red Cross chapter in Charlotte, is resigning effective June 9.

After 25 years with this wonderful organization, Jefsen said in a letter to staff, I feel that it is time to explore other interests and skills that I have.

Jefsen has been CEO of the Greater Carolinas Chapter for six years, in a position that included oversight to nine other North Carolina Red Cross chapters.

In the past two years, she has worked to ease the chapter through a period of financial struggle, including a budget cut last year of nearly $500,000 from United Way. Of that, $171,000 was cut from Emergency and Disaster Relief, which keeps families from becoming homeless after a home fire or other disaster.

During her tenure in Charlotte, Jefsen led as the chapter:

Sheltered and assisted over 4,000 evacuees who came to Charlotte after Hurricane Katrina

Increased percentage of the chapters minority volunteer leadership by 900% and the percentage of minority professional staff by 30%

Teresa Caver, 30-year Red Cross employee and volunteer, will serve as interim leader of the chapter, starting in early June. During this time, Red Cross services will continue as usual in all of the communities served by the Greater Carolinas Chapter.
