ANNOUNCEMENTS from Dec. 2, 2008:


A memorial for Forum co-founder Mary Elizabeth Anthony Brooks opened the Dec. 2 Forum. Material from that memorial will be posted Wednesday at www.tueforumclt.org.

Donna Dawson announced that she would be at the Forum next Tuesday, Dec. 9, to collect contributions to cover the remaining $8,000 in expenses to send the West Charlotte High School cheerleading squad to the Auto Zone Liberty Bowl in Memphis on Jan. 2. Natheley McElrath announced that she needed Forum members to deliver to the Dec. 9 Forum "gifts you really didn't ever like when you got them" for use as prizes for the games at the Dec. 16 Forum Christmas Party. She also encouraged all to invite others to the Dec. 16 event. The full breakfast that morning will cost $5.

Thomas Moore thanked those who participated in last week's choir that was assembled for the city's Interfaith Thanksgiving Service at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. The service "was beautiful, wonderful and over the top," said the choir director.

Michael Sexton sent in an message inviting all to the lighting of the Domestic Violence Memorial Tree on Tuesday, Dec. 9 from 6-7 p.m. in the main lobby of the Police Headquarters, 601 E. Trade St.

Donna Dawson sent in an announcement of a gospel choir competition for churches outside Charlotte on three dates, Dec. 28 for adults, Jan. 25 for young adults and children, and Feb. 15 for specialty choirs. Donna Dawson passed along an announcement from the U.S. Census Bureau that it was beginning to fill 5,000 temporary jobs in North Carolina, some part-time and some full-time, at hourly rates beginning at $8.75 an hour. More information is at www.2010censusjobs.gov or 866-861-2010.

Natheley McElrath announced that the Dec. 16 Forum would be the annual Christmas party, with "Take a Gift, everyone's favorite game," other games, the Christmas quiz, singing, readings, the second annual Tuesday Forum Year In Review in Pictures, and more surprises. Catered full breakfast is $5.00. "There hasn't been large attendance for the past year or two.... A lot of people just don't know what it is." Look in your attic for a gag gift to bring along for the "Take a Gift" game: Focus on those "gifts you really didn't ever like when you got them."

Ken Koontz announced that his WENS-TV web-based video service would be videostreaming inaugural events from Washington D.C. under the name "The Mountaintop: Five Historic Days." More information: www.wenstv.com.

Donna Jenkins Dawson announced an "Until" donation drive this Saturday, Dec. 13, from noon "until" at Claiborne's Private Lounge, 2342 Beatties Ford Road across the street from the House of Prayer Mother Church. Proceeds from the drive will help pay expenses as the West Charlotte High School Lions Cheerleaders go to the 50th Auto Zone Liberty Bowl on Jan. 2nd in Memphis. Dawson said she would stay at the fund drive from Saturday noon "until" the team's expenses are fully covered. As of Dec. 9, about $7,000 needed to be raised by Monday, Dec. 15. Checks may be made payable to West Charlotte High School Lions Club and mailed to West Charlotte High School, attention Ms. Heath, 2219 Senior Dr., Charlotte, NC 28216. Sarah Stevenson announced that the next Forum would be Jan. 6, 2009.

At Tuesday's Christmas Party, the Forum presented to co-founder Sarah Stevenson a purse in appreciation for her continued leadership of the Forum.

Thomas Moore announced that Myers Park United Methodist Church would hold its Christmas Eve Jazz Service on Wednesday, Dec. 24 at 1 p.m. in the Sanctuary.

Thomas Moore extended to Forum readers a $5 discount on his first DVD of children's songs entitled "Come Sing and Dance With Us." Information, playlist, pictures, discount slip and order form are all posted at www.tueforumclt.org.

Michael Sexton sent in a message that the Domestic Violence Advocacy Council will march this Thursday, Dec. 18, at 12:15 p.m. at The Square, Trade and Tryon Streets, to mark the domestic violence-related homicide of Elizabeth Michelle Elder, 38. "The march is intended to broaden the public's awareness that there is help available, including local programs and services offering domestic violence counseling and education.
