ANNOUNCEMENTS from July 10, 2007:
--
Blanche Penn announced a follow-up play by teens on Sept. 30 at 4 p.m. at Waddell High School. She said the cast would be raising money for transportation costs to perform in Little Rock.
--
Pam Grundy announced that county commissioners were scheduled to vote tonight, July 10, at the Government Center on putting school bonds on the November ballot. Grundy said she and other pro-bonds supporters would be at the Government Center at 5:30 p.m. with sign-making materials. City Council member Michael Bonds added that commissioners also planned to take up the baseball stadium issue.

School board at-large member Trent Merchant encouraged attendance at the commissioners meeting -- "no matter what side you're on, it's time for you to be heard... so there are no excuses as we move forward."

Sarah Stevenson announced that CMS Supt. Peter Gorman was scheduled to address the Forum July 24.

Ahmad Daniels sent in an announcement of a "To Your Journey" workshop July 28 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Registration is $125. For more information: [email protected]. Daniels also said another community town hall meeting would be held Sept. 20 from 7-9 p.m.

Housing Authority Commissioner Rodney Moore sent word that he would be interviewed Monday, July 16, on the 7 a.m.-10 a.m. morning show on Rejoy Network, 1370 AM and webstreamed at www.rejoynetwork.com/home/?nav=daily_schedule (click on "Listen Live" button).

Michael Sexton sent word that the Domestic Violence Advocacy Council would march at The Square this Thursday, July 12, from 12:15-1 p.m. to raise awareness about domestic violence on the occasion of the recent death of Andrew Andre Allen. Free parking is available at the Hal Marshall County Services Center, 700 N. Tryon St. or the Seventh Street Station parking garage. A free trolley runs the length of Tryon Street every seven minutes. More information: 704-432-1568.

Geraldine Brisbane annouced that four $2,700 seats were available for Brisbane Academy's South Africa tour Oct. 12-27.

Valerie Woodard announced that Beverly Earle had filed to run for Charlotte mayor.

Sarah Stevenson presented Betty Chisholm with a distinguished service award from the Mecklenburg County Health Department for Chisholm's work with male youth. Chisholm responded that the Male's Place had received donations to support a Boy Scout troop on the west side.

Michael Sexton sent in an announcement of the Aug. 7 free Domestic Violence "Lunch & Learn" workshop on "How to Talk to Teens About Domestic Violence." Program is at 12:30 p.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 507 S. Tryon. Bring a bag lunch. Information: 704-432-1568.
