Former school board chair Arthur Griffin addresses Forum

'We clearly are moving in a direction where we may ultimately end up
with two systems, one for the haves, one for the have-nots'

July 2, 2013

Arthur Griffin today pressed Forum participants to take ownership of improving CMS public education.

That's a message he has been making during more than 40 years of active engagement in the work of his native county's public school system.

Today, the message is laced with the national and international context reflected in the slides from his presentation, which are included on this page. The message is also informed by cuts to public funding of public education that have been enacted this year by the N.C. General Assembly.

Griffin was first appointed to the school board in 1985. He served as its chairperson from December 1997 to December 2002.

Below will be three videos that capture his initial remarks, then two videos from the Q&A that followed.

During his presentation he makes reference to PowerPoint slides. Readers of this page may scroll down while the video plays to study the slide he is talking about.
