'Real Men Talking' producer previews Friday show

Marlon Smith has acted many times in "Real Men Talking," the multimedia show about black men that plays Spirit Square Friday.

But this week an understudy will take the role on stage while producer Marlon Smith keeps the show on cue.

Details about the show and the $29.50 tickets are at www.realmentalking.com or the theater box office at 704-372-1000. Among the partners for Friday's event are the Area Mental Health Authority, and Fighting Back, which had 50 sponsored tickets. The Mental Health Authority issued a press release about the show.  A press release from Smith's company outlines other collaborations. And here is a flyer about Friday's show.

Smith, who crosscrosses the country giving motivational speeches, opened the Forum with his low-grade past, his achievement of an engineering job at Hewlett-Packard, and his decision to leave the job to devote his life to giving back. He lived for a number of years in South Africa, and moved to Charlotte last year. He is trying to forge partnerships with other mentoring agencies, and with the public schools to reach the middle-school and high-school students his group's efforts address.

More below anon about that, about the play, and what he disclosed when asked what really motivated him to give up a good, steady job for the uncertainties of his current effort.
