ANNOUNCEMENTS from July 2, 2013:

Sarah Stevenson invited people to read the discussion questions and responses from the CMS Culture, Engagement & Shared Values Task Force of which she is a member, and advise her if they would like to schedule a Forum for further discussion on any of those matters.

Geneal Gregory announced a scholarship luncheon on Saturday, July 20 at noon at the United House of Prayer for All People, 2321 Beatties Ford Rd. Tickets are $50.

Joyce Waddell announced that the 4th annual Gantt Watt Reception sponsored by the Young Democrats of Mecklenburg County will be held Saturday, July 20 at 7 p.m. at the Charlotte School of Law, 2145 Suttle Ave. off Wilkinson Boulevard. Tickets ranging from $50 to $2,000 are online here.

Paul Holmes announced that area businesses and organizations are backing the request of six residents and two business owners for a painted median rather than a concrete median along a section of Beatties Ford Road, arguing that the concrete will impede access to the properties between Capps Hill Mine Road and Slater Road. Ken Koontz announced that he had provided to the Forum video of Anthony Foxx's parting comments and new Mayor Patsy Kinsey's installation and comments. The video materials are here.

Rodney Moore announced that Moral Monday protests are still going on and asked people to become engaged. He said a Wilmington legislator had labeled the protests "Moron Mondays."

David Howard sent in an invitation to join him as he files for re-election to an at-large seat on Charlotte City Council on Monday, July 8 at 12:30 p.m. at the Board of Elections, 741 Kenilworth Ave.

Dianna Davis sent in a flier  for Joyce Waddell's filing for re-election to the CMS school board District 3 seat on July 5. Her campaign is on Facebook.

Linwood Foust announced that Regan Miller had been appointed Chief District Judge by Supreme Court Chief Justice Sarah Parker. Miller succeeds Lisa Bell, who was named by Gov. Pat McCrory to a special Superior Court judgeship. More info here.

Marc Friedland announced that Senior Democrats meet Friday, July 12 at noon at the Community Development Center at Little Rock AME Zion Church at 7th and McDowell Sts., to discuss the Citizens Police Review Board.

Dianna Davis announced that volunteers are needed for the Charlotte African-American Festival to be held in February 2014.

Trasha Black announced that Genesis Project needs several community members who are aware of the Project to be involved in a re-accreditation visit by the National Council for Quality and Leadership to be held on Wednesday, July 17 from 1-5 p.m. and Thursday, July 18 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Vi Lyles announced that on Friday, July 5 she filed for an at-large seat on City Council.

John White announced that he would file for City Council District 2 at noon on Friday, July 12 at the Board of Elections office.

Patrick Chang sent in an announcement that Grameen Bank opened its Charlotte branch at the end of December 2012 in the Midwood International Cultural Center, 1817 Central Ave, and has loaned over $400,000 to new entrepreneurs opening new businesses. The only criteria to get a loan from Grameen, you must be at or below the poverty level. Grameen Bank is looking for individuals who want to start their own small businesses. Loans start at $1,000 to $1,500. Mr Alam is the Branch Manager.

Michael DeVaul announced a community conversation about "Read To Achieve," the 2012 law that prohibits promotion of lagging readers out of 3rd grade. Panelists include CMS Supt. Heath Morrison and representatives from the Lincoln, Gaston and Mooresville school districts.
