Robin Bradford announced that District 1 precincts would host a candidate forum for candidates in May 8 primaries for county commission District 1, county commission at-large, and judge candidates. The forum will be held on Tuesday, April 17 from 6:30-8 p.m. at Bradley Middle School, 13345 Beatties Ford Road.

Nakiya Cohen announced that the Black Political Caucus will hold a candidate forum for primary candidates on Sunday, April 15 at 5:30 p.m. at LIttle Rock AME Zion Church at 7th & McDowell Sts.

Ken Koontz announced the farewell concert of the ICOM Honors Chorus of South Africa on Thursday, April 5 at 6:30 p.m. at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 3400 Beatties Ford Road. "This is an example of what other cultures can do with so much less than what we have here that we're just throwing away."

Robert Hillman announced that Taste of the Nation would be held on Wednesday, April 11 from 6 p.m. at the Wells Fargo Atrium at 301 S. Tryon St. Tickets are $85 and $100, with proceeds going to hunger projects including the Community Culinary School of Charlotte. Food tastings and a silent auction.

Malachi Greene sent in an announcement of the April Carolina Issues Poll supported by N.C. Policy Watch, which "shows strong voter support for public schools and teachers and strong opposition to the legislature's funding cuts."

The office of Rep. Mel Watt sent in an announcement of a free discussion on "the importance of art to education, revitalization and economic growth" to be held Friday, May 4 from 5-6:30 p.m. at the uptown Mint Museum, 500 S. Tryon St. Panelists include Barbara Ann Temple, Arts & Science Council; Cheryl Palmer, Mint Museum; Gordon C. James, artist; Ron Kimble, Charlotte deputy city manager; and Scott Provancher, Arts and Science Council. The discussion will be held in conjunction with the 12th Congressional District High School Art Competition, which is being hosted by the Gantt Center. The office of Rep. Zack Hill announced a clean-up campaign at Oaklawn Park through Saturday and the second annual Art Walk on the Sugar Creek Greenway along Kings Drive near the Metropolitan development. Art Walk concludes Sunday from 11 a.m.-6 p.m.

Ericka Ellis-Stewart announced that the U.S. Office of Civil Rights has put a Civil Rights Data Collection online "that will allow you to analyze equity and opportunities in education or equity gaps. It covers everything from gender to discipline to gaps in education for college and career readiness and resource equity." The data, she said, was self-reported by 85% of the districts nationwide, including Charlotte-Mecklenburg.

Carlenia Ivory announced a need for end-of-grade testing proctors at 10 CMS Title 1 middle schools schools on May 14-18 from 7:15 a.m. to 2 p.m. A flier is here.

Ken Koontz announced that the C.W. Williams Community Health Center, the only federally qualified community health center in Mecklenburg County, is accepting underinsured and uninsured, as well as the insured, as new clients. Patients pay on a sliding scale. Its two locations are at 3333 Wilkinson Blvd and 900 East Blvd. More info is here.

James Soder announced that the North Carolina Office of Vocational Rehabilitation is often a place to find funds to maintain or get a job. Soder offered to help, and  asked to be contacted through the Republican Party.
