Johnnie Collins announced the Oct. 7 Black Political Caucus Fall Ball, proceeds from which finance get-out-the-vote activities. Lucy Bush Carter announced a Groupon online fund-raising opportunity closing out Thursday, Oct. 6.

Robert Dawkins sent in a save-the-date for Oct. 19 and Oct. 26 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. for Charlotte "Souls to the Polls" workshops. If you can offer a site, contact Dawkins by e-mail.

Federico Rios sent in an invitation to MENCONNECT's 2011-12 kickoff breakfast on Oct. 22, no time specified, at Charlotte Scottish Rite Building, 4740 Randolph Rd."MENCONNECT is an initiative of Communities In Schools that creates opportunitites for positive males in the community to connect with students at four local schools and develop long-term mentoring relationships." Rob Hillman announced that the National Society of Black Engineers would sponsor a Walk for Education from the West Charlotte Recreation Center, 2401 Kendall Dr. on Oct. 29 from 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in conjunction with a college fair to raise awareness of opportunities in higher education. Rodney Moore announced that the Legislative Black Caucus and the Mecklenburg County Democratic delegation would hold a town hall meeting on Thursday, Nov. 17 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at C.N. Jenkins Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1421 Statesville Ave. Guests will include representatives from the N.C. Employment Security Commission.

Next week at the Forum: School board candidates who are still running but have not already appeared at the Forum. That list includes Keith Hurley, DeShauna McLamb, Ken Nelson, Darrin Rankin and Jeff Wise.

James Walker of Occupy Charlotte invited Forum participants to visit the Occupy Charlotte site at 600 E. Trade St. to have a conversation.

Joyce Waddell announced that the Mecklenburg African-American Caucus will host the N.C. African-American Caucus Convention on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 6 p.m. at the Marriott Tyvola. For $50 tickets, see Waddell.

Beverly Irby announced that as of Monday, the C.W. Williams Community Health Center had provided 30 years of health care underserved members of the community. A celebration gala will be held Nov. 19 at the Westin Hotel at 6:30 p.m. with an auction, music, dinner and an address by actress and HIV/AIDS advocate Sheryl Lee Ralph. Oct. 25, 2011

The Forum held a moment of silence in memory of Beverly Cotton Lawston, 61, a Forum regular, Park and Recreation commissioner and founder of Grandparents of America, who died Thursday. Service is Thursday, Oct. 27 at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 3400 Beatties Ford Rd., with visitation at 10 a.m. and service at 11. Caleb Walls, aka DJ Whoota, and LaShawn Walls announced "Let's Move in After School" a six-week program being offered to afterschool programs to encourage children to avoid obesity. Their flyer is here.

Carlenia Ivory announced that Project L.I.F.T. Executive Director Denise Watts will hold a forum at Thomasboro Elementary School, 538 Bradford Dr., on Thursday, Nov. 3 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. titled "Project L.I.F.T. Annual Report and Community Conversation" to discuss how the project will invest an anticipated $55 million in West Charlotte High and the elementary and middle schools that feed into it.
